| archaeological context | |
| remarks on archaeological context | Circular pit about 70 in diameter, the upper part being badly destroyed and making measurements difficult. At about a meter from the surface there was a layer of single bricks and mud, circular in shape but not covering the entire area of the pit. Beneath this on the east side were a fine red polished pottery dish (PI. IV. 34), and a rough vase (of type PI. IV. 37). Lower still lay the body of a young individual, face downwards, contracted and on the left side, head north. The body was covered with what appeared to be the remains of a reed basket of circular shape. |
